Normal skin and diabetic skin

In comparison with healthy skin diabetic skin is often dry and irritable. The skin appears uneven and rough. The reason for this is the changed metabolism and loss of skin moistness. Beside the exsiccation this may also lead to fissured skin.

Normal skin

Approximately 7% of Germans suffer from diabetes.

And this tendency is increasing. On the one hand this is because of unfavourable nutritional and movement habits, while on the other hand it is because of increased life expectancy. Approximately 44% of diabetics are 60 years of age or older. Diabetes is commonly only detected if symptoms break out or consequential damage becomes apparent.

Besides plain medical treatment, e.g. by administering insulin, the co-operation of the patient is absolutely imperative in treating diabetes. This is shown in the care of affected feet and extremely sensitive skin.
